Charles E. Culpeper Health Care Research Grants

Culpeper Scholarships in Medical Science
Culpeper Biomedical Initiative Pilot Grants

On April 1, 2004, Goldman Philanthropic Partnerships concluded an agreement with the New York-based Rockefeller Brothers Fund to move responsibility for the Charles E. Culpeper Scholarships in Medical Science and Biomedical Pilot Initiative grants from the Rockefeller Brothers Fund to Goldman Philanthropic Partnerships.

What this means is that all inquiries about these grant programs should be directed to us at Goldman Philanthropic Partnerships rather than to the Rockefeller Brothers Fund.  The appropriate contacts at our organization are our President and CEO, Dr. Bruce E. Bloom, and Kenlyn Vass, the Charles E. Culpeper Program Manager.

We are excited about this major step in the further evolution of the Culpeper Health Research Programs because we believe that they will benefit from the support and attention they will receive from our staff and donors at Goldman Philanthropic Partnerships.  As an organization dedicated exclusively to advancing innovative health sciences research, Goldman Philanthropic Partnerships is well-suited to the responsibility of managing and directing both the Scholars program, whose purpose is to support the career advancement of promising young physician-scientists, and the Biomedical Pilot Initiative, which funds innovative, early stage, biomedical research.

We are pleased to report that as the Culpeper Health Research Grant Programs begins a new chapter at Goldman Philanthropic Partnerships, they will continue to benefit from the thoughtful advice and counsel received in recent years from Dr. Tadataka Yamada, Chairman of Research and Development at GlaxoSmithKline, and Dr. Edward W. Holmes, Dean of the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego.  Dr. Yamada has been a strong and consistent advocate for funding the work of promising physician-scientists and the innovative Pilot projects, and has given generously of his time to ensure the success of these Programs.  Dr. Holmes will continue to chair the Scholars Scientific Advisory Committee that evaluates applicants’ proposals and recommends a new group of Culpeper Scholars each year.
