| PROJECT TITLE | Yoga for Generalized Anxiety Disorder |
| CATEGORY | Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Yoga, Non-drug Therapies |
| PROJECT DESCRIPTION |
At least 5% of the
population suffers from generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). Current
standard treatments are drug therapy and psychotherapy. Neither therapy,
alone or in combination, has been shown to help even half of those
afflicted. This research project will help determine if patients who
learn a certain style of yoga can use the yoga techniques to achieve the
same or better results than they currently achieve with conventional
therapy.
The outcome of this project will be a workbook for physicians and other health care providers about yoga and GAD, as well as a workbook for the highly trained yoga instructors who might treat these patients upon a physician's request. Patients who undergo this therapy will have a lifelong treatment that they can use any time, any place, to inexpensively and continually self-treat this devastating condition. |
