Foundation Hires New Senior Director To Qualify Research

June 26, 2001 DEERFIELD, IL -- The Goldman Philanthropic Partnerships announced today that Wendy Trocchio, MS, RN, AOCN, joined the foundation as Senior Director of Research. The Partnerships is a new 501(c)(3) not-for-profit foundation dedicated to seeking out innovative research and treatments for cancer and other catastrophic diseases and funding these pioneering projects.

As the foundation's lead scientific officer, Ms. Trocchio will identify, qualify and monitor innovative projects in oncology, integrative medicine, immunology and other research disciplines. She also will establish specific measures of success for research submissions, work with Partnerships medical advisors from leading research institutions worldwide, and provide general project leadership.

"Wendy will be instrumental in our foundation's efforts to validate groundbreaking research that often fails to make it out of the laboratory due to limited research funding," said Chairman George N. Goldman, who co-founded the Partnerships with his wife, Judith, the organization's current president. The Goldmans, who are Chicago entrepreneurs, established the Partnerships after Judith's battle against multiple myeloma, which has been in remission for almost a decade.

Ms. Trocchio has gained nearly 20 years of experience in the health care field with an emphasis on oncology research and patient care. She most recently worked with Pharmacia/G.D. Searle Pharmaceutical Company as Project Manager in charge of the design, direction and management of clinical trials for immunotherapy, cancer vaccines, and cancer therapies. In addition to managing operational aspects of studies, she prepared and executed clinical development plans and operational budgets for Phase I, II and III projects.

While Director of Clinical Operations at Northwest Medical Specialist, PC, Ms. Trocchio held overall responsibility for nursing and laboratory staff as well as management and coordination of more than 22 clinical trials. Ms. Trocchio co-authored several studies involving the treatment of diseases associated with hematology, oncology, and autoimmunity.

Ms. Trocchio also worked as a nurse in the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois where she coordinated care of patients undergoing allogeneic, autologous, and matched unrelated donor transplants. Ms. Trocchio lectures extensively on alternative, complementary and integrative medicine and is founder of Cancer Consciousness, an organization that provides counseling and guidance to people with cancer and their families.

Ms. Trocchio holds both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Nursing with a concentration in Ambulatory Health Services Administration from Loyola University Chicago. She also earned an Associate degree in Applied Science in Nursing from Mayfair College in Chicago.
